Our Story

It all started back in the Bringing Down the House era at MIT. In the late '90s, the campus was riddled with blackjack card counters — not in the shadows as described in the book and movie. Some also spent time handicapping football and helping Vegas research the accuracy of game lines. Fantasy football was in its infancy, and a group of us — card counters and handicappers among them — started a traditional fantasy league.

We spent a few years immersed in the highs and lows of a traditional league: draft nights, waiver-wire pickups, heartbreaking losses and glorious victories. But as the seasons went by, something was missing. We wanted more than a single season of glory; we wanted to build dynasties in franchise mode.

What if fantasy football could go deeper? What if we could manage player contracts, deal with salary caps and make decisions that mirrored the real complexity of running an NFL franchise? No more one-season resets — this league would reward the most dedicated and strategic managers year after year.

Over countless late-night discussions we drafted the rulebook for what was originally dubbed the League of Minerva, for the goddess of wisdom. Each year we'd gather for the league's Winter Meetings, spending hours debating and honing the rules. The League of Minerva morphed into what is now Franchise League Football. It's more than just fantasy — it's a game of long-term thinking. We introduced contract lengths, restricted free agency and even a college player draft. Suddenly the offseason became just as exciting as the regular season, and in-season roster moves carried long-term implications.

At first it was just for us. But as word spread, more players wanted in. They were tired of cookie-cutter leagues and longed for the thrill of building something that lasted. Over the years, Franchise League Football grew into a fully realized platform, designed for the ultimate fantasy GM.
